TECHNICIAN INSPECTION COURSE - PART 2

The IDEST Technician Inspection Course Part 2 (TIC2) is designed for IDEST Test Centre staff who have completed Part 1 of the Technician Inspection Course. This advanced training course broadens their expertise to include hydrostatic testing of diving and breathing gas cylinders, equipping them with the skills needed to provide comprehensive cylinder testing services to their customers.

Part 2 of this course is intended for technicians aiming to offer cylinder testing services. It imparts sufficient knowledge and practical skills for hydrostatic testing of cylinders, adhering to BS EN 1968:2002 and BS EN 1902:2002 standards for inspection and testing.

Aim of the Course
By the end of this short course, students will be able to:

• Confidently and competently check cylinder and valve threads.
• Hydrostatically test a cylinder to determine its permanent set.
• Stamp and label the cylinder according to ISO standards.
• Issue test certificates for cylinders that pass the test.

The course combines classroom instruction with a practical workshop and lasts approximately 5 to 6 hours. It begins with a brief presentation on the topics below, followed by hands-on sessions where participants will disassemble, hydrostatically test, dry, reassemble, stamp, and label cylinders according to ISO 13769:2002 standards.

• Tools and equipment required for hydraulic testing
• Ensuring the testing system is functioning correctly and troubleshooting issues
• Preparing the cylinder for testing in the chamber
• Ensuring the system is pressure tight
• The hydraulic test procedure
• Recording readings and calculating results
• Removing the cylinder from the chamber
• Methods for drying the cylinder and post-drying internal inspection
• Valve replacement and proper torqueing
• Cylinder stamping and labelling
• Completion of documentation
