The beauty of staying at the Phi Phi islands, is that all the dive sites are super close. The furthest local dive site is only 35 minutes away!
Koh Phi Phi is a stunning archipelago in Thailand’s Andaman Sea, halfway between Phuket and Krabi. The two main islands are Phi Phi Don, the only inhabited island with lively beaches, bars, and accommodation, and Phi Phi Leh, famous for the iconic Maya Bay and soaring limestone cliffs. Gorgeous turquoise waters, vibrant marine life, and scenic viewpoints make Koh Phi Phi a tropical paradise for swimming, snorkeling, diving, and boat tours. Phi Phi Don is small and easy to explore on foot, boasting lively nightlife and laid-back charm. Phi Phi Leh and nearby islands offer breathtaking natural beauty and unforgettable beach experiences.
The Phi Phi Islands are celebrated for their diverse, world-class dive sites, making them an outstanding choice for both IDC (Instructor Development Course) training and specialty instructor development. The waters around Phi Phi offer a range of clear, sheltered locations ideal for skill practice, as well as more challenging sites for advanced certifications.
For IDC candidates, sites like Hin Bida and Viking Cave provide gentle conditions, sandy bottoms, and good visibility, creating a safe environment for confined water skills, open water teaching exercises, and rescue scenarios. These sites are easily accessible by short boat rides and feature mild currents, making logistics smooth and minimizing time spent in transit. The wide range of marine life—schools of snapper, barracuda, moray eels, and turtles—adds excitement to every training dive without making conditions difficult for those new to teaching.
When it comes to specialty instructor training, Phi Phi truly excels. The renowned King Cruiser wreck is a highlight for Deep and Wreck specialties. This former passenger ferry, resting at 30 meters, is covered in soft corals and teems with barracuda, lionfish, and nudibranchs, giving candidates real-life experience teaching penetration techniques, deep skills, and navigation in a dynamic underwater environment. For underwater naturalist and photography specialties, sites like Shark Point and Anemone Reef amaze with vibrant coral gardens and an abundance of macro creatures and schooling fish.
The close proximity of all sites to Tonsai Pier ensures efficient daily schedules, allowing for multiple dives and varied training scenarios in a single day. The mix of shallow reefs, dramatic pinnacles, caves, and the King Cruiser wreck means new instructors can confidently teach everything from basic open water skills to advanced specialties—making Phi Phi a premier destination for anyone pursuing a comprehensive and exciting dive education.
The Adventure Club on Koh Phi Phi boasts one of the island’s best IDC facilities for aspiring instructors. As a PADI 5-Star IDC Center, it offers modern onsite classrooms, high-quality dive gear, air conditioning, and reliable Wi-Fi, creating a focused and comfortable learning environment. The club’s location in the heart of Phi Phi means logistics for the IDC are incredibly simple—just a three-minute walk from Tonsai Pier, eliminating the need for taxis or transfers. All confined water and open water sessions are conducted either steps from the beach or at world-class sites that surround the island, so candidates can easily transition between classroom, pool, and sea. The diverse training boats and daily access to vibrant dive sites ensure no wasted time commuting, making the entire IDC process smooth and stress-free. With friendly multilingual staff and a full range of services, the Adventure Club provides an efficient, welcoming base to launch a dive instruction career on Phi Phi.
Phi Phi Island offers a variety of accommodation options for Divemaster interns and IDC candidates, with choices ranging from hostels and budget hotels to long-term guesthouses and resort bungalows, many located within walking distance of dive centers and the beach. Budget travelers will find lively hostels such as Lucky Dorm and Slumber Party Phi Phi, offering affordable dorm beds ideal for meeting other divers. For extra privacy, guesthouses and small hotels like PP Insula and Phi Phi Rimlay Resort provide comfortable rooms with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, and proximity to both the pier and dive shops.
Several dive centers assist interns in arranging housing, and private long-term rentals are also available for those seeking quiet or shared flats with other dive professionals. For those wanting a little more luxury after intensive training days, there are mid-range options like Phi Phi Sand Sea View Resort and beachfront bungalows, offering tranquil settings and beautiful ocean vistas.
Due to Phi Phi’s compact layout, most accommodation is just a short walk or boat ride from daily training, making life on the island convenient and enjoyable. Early booking is recommended, especially in peak season, as accommodations fill quickly with both tourists and dive students. Whether seeking a sociable hostel or a peaceful room, Phi Phi has something to suit every IDC candidate’s budget and lifestyle. Accommodation options on Koh Phi Phi for Divemaster internships and the IDC are wide-ranging to fit every budget and preference. The island features affordable hostels and guesthouses for budget-conscious dive trainees, such as Lucky Dorm and Rehab Hostel, which are perfect for socializing and meeting fellow divers. For more comfort and privacy, small hotels and guesthouses like PP Insula and Phi Phi Rimlay Resort offer en suite rooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and easy walking access to both the pier and dive centers. Beachfront resorts like Phi Phi Sand Sea View Resort provide a peaceful retreat after training, with beautiful ocean views and on-site dining facilities.
We will assist our candidates in finding suitable accommodation, and long-term room rentals can often be arranged in advance. The compact island means almost any stay is close to dive training and nightlife, creating a supportive and convenient home base for the duration of your professional dive course.
Getting to Koh Phi Phi is straightforward and convenient, with regular ferry and speedboat services connecting the island to both Phuket and Krabi on the Thai mainland. The most common route is a ferry from Phuket’s Rassada Pier, which takes about 2 hours and offers several daily departures. From Krabi, boats leave from Klong Jilad Pier and take about 90 minutes. Tickets can be purchased online, at travel agents, or directly at the piers, and most include hotel pick-up options for extra convenience.
No airport exists on Phi Phi; travelers must arrive by boat. Once on the island, all transport is on foot or by water taxi, as there are no cars. During peak season, booking ferries in advance is recommended to guarantee your spot. The scenic boat ride offers stunning views of the turquoise sea and limestone cliffs, making the journey itself a memorable part of the Phi Phi experience.
