Dive-Careers and Worldwide Dive And Sail luxury liveaboards have launched an exciting new liveaboard Cruise Director Internship programme to ensure great employment opportunities within the dive industry, creating competent and experienced dive instructors with valuable liveaboard work experience.

The program is designed to give suitable candidates a great opportunity to gain an unmatched experience in how to run the day to day operation of a leading liveaboard company in the Asia-Pacific region. The candidate will learn how to manage, together with the captain, a crew of up to 13 persons of different nationalities. The candidate will further learn how to plan a liveaboard diving safari adapting to local conditions and guest diver needs.

Mark Soworka from Dive-Careers and Frank van der Linde and Mark Shandur from Worldwide Dive and Sail have been friends for more than a decade.

After successful completion of the program the candidate will receive a certificate and letter of recognition, along with an assessment sheet from the Worldwide Dive and Sail cruise director and leader of operations. He/she will also be given the opportunity of employment aboard one of the company’s vessels, dependent upon availability.

PRE-REQUISITES FOR OUR LIVEABOARD CRUISE DIRECTOR PROGRAMME

All candidates must enrol into the Divemaster Internship or Instructor Development program with Dive-careers.com including MSDT Internship at Buddha View CDC Koh Tao, Thailand.

Buddha View is one of the leading PADI Career Development Centres in the world. After the candidate successfully completes his Instructor and MSDT program he will be interviewed by the chief operation and/or dive operation officer(s). At which time a decision will be made as to the location in which the training program will be undertaken. Acceptance to the course is through an application process.

Only applicants with real job opportunity aboard the Siren Fleet will be accepted on the course.

COURSE DURATION FOR OUR LIVEABOARD CRUISE DIRECTOR PROGRAMME

The program will run over 3 consecutive cruises (3x 10 days) on of the vessels of the Siren Fleet. You have the opportunity to gain experience on some of the best liveaboard vessels in the world, with an experienced crew on some of the best diving destinations in the world, with the Siren Fleet diving incredible dive destinations in Indonesia, Philippines, Palau, Thailand and Fiji.

CANDIDATE TO CRUISE DIRECTOR RATIO:

To ensure high quality training, the ratio for the program is 1:1. This will enable the candidate to achieve the best possible experience and level of expertise whilst on board. There will be only one candidate at the time on each vessel.

COURSE STRUCTURE FOR OUR LIVEABOARD CRUISE DIRECTOR PROGRAMME

TRIP 1

During the first trip the candidate will “shadow” the Cruise Director to gain an insight into the work involved in planning and leading a dive safari.

This will include but is not limited to:

• PAPERWORK
• DIVE AND SAFETY BRIEFINGS
• DAILY SCHEDULE AND ITINERARY PLANNING

The candidate will be diving together with each of the dive staff in order to learn the dive sites and gain a general idea of the aquatic life of the region. The candidate will learn specific dive techniques (drift diving, use of reef hooks, macro diving, free negative descents, diving with photographers) as required by the local environment.

TRIP 2

During the second trip the Cruise Director will delegate some of his responsibilities to the candidate and give guidance for the leadership role on board.

Topics covered during this trip will include:

• DIVE BRIEFING
• GUEST AND BOAT PAPERWORK
• BOAT ACCOUNTS AND INVENTORY

In conjunction with the Cruise Director and Captain the candidate will plan the route and the daily dive activities.

The candidate will be also given an introduction to recreational rebreather diving, using the Poseidon MKVI. This could be either in theory or, if the time and schedule allows, as a try dive.

The candidate will learn the use of the oxygen booster pump and the specific accounts relating to the use of Siren Fleet re-breathers.

TRIP 3

The candidate will act as Cruise Director with the Worldwide Dive and Sail Cruise Director taking a supervisory role. This trip is the final assessment for the candidate and he/she will be required to plan the route and dive program independently of the Cruise Director, submitting his/her schedules to the Cruise Director for approval.

The candidate will conduct the majority of the social and dive briefings for the duration of the trip, along with organising the dive groups and co-ordinating with the other dive staff and deck crew. Non-diving activities (kayaking, water ski, dragon walk, beach visit) should also be scheduled at appropriate times or dependent on guest requirements.

CAREER OUTLOOK FOR OUR LIVEABOARD CRUISE DIRECTOR PROGRAMME

After successfully completing the program, the candidate will receive a Worldwide Dive and Sail training completion certificate and an evaluation form. The training completion certificate and evaluation form will provide a superior opportunity for employment with luxury dive liveaboards. Suitable candidates will be offered employment within Worldwide Dive and Sail.
