Core Research Diver - Koh Phangan
In-depth training on current marine research and sampling techniques for scientists, students of marine biology/ zoology/ ecology, bio-geo-chemistry and oceanography or people interested in going beyond recreational diving and assisting in scientific field-work.
College Credit: Course is designed in compliance with the European ECTS system as part of “General Studies” and is usually credited with 3 CP
COURSE CONTENT
- Planning, preparation and execution of research/ sampling campaigns
- Advanced gas planning and safety protocols
- Advanced mapping and imaging of marine structures (transects, grids, chain-profile and adv. Patterns)
- Specialized buoyancy techniques; equipment handling and lifting devices
- Technical Diving Intro
- Sampling techniques for water, sediments, planktonic and nektonic organisms
- Laboratory internship
- Intro to analysis and documentation of field samples
- Participation in current research projects
- Lectures on: reef classification, coral and aquatic animal physiology, ecology and all methods used in the course
By the end of this course participants will be able to design sampling campaigns independently and execute them safely.
