Simple Life X ALotMeant Coral Conservation - Coral Survey
Minimum age: 12
Minimum certification: PADI AOW
During this course you will expand on your knowledge of coral ecology, focusing on the environmental factors and risks that affect coral reef health and growth. The conditions you learn about in the classroom portion of this course will all be tested by yourself on our site contributing to our environmental database allowing us to track growth and plan better each year to ensure the health and success of the ALotMeant coral rehabilitation project.
On the second dive to the site you and your instructor will collect a wide range of environmental data using numerous scientific instruments including:
- Tracking the salinity of water at our site by taking samples and using a refractometer
- Taking water samples to analyze on land with a pH meter
- Recovering traps from our silt traps to analyze
- Using a Secchi disk to record water clarity
- Monitoring the dissolved oxygen content at our site
All of this data collected will be recorded in the Simple Life ALotMeant database and used by our team of conservationists to track overall health of the reef as well as identifying seasonal factors that will affect future plant dates and locations. This invaluable data is what allows our project to continue and flourish. We thank you humbly for your support in this effort.
