Dive Careers Team Member Ashraf assists on our PADI IDC Programmes in The Maldives
Ever since I became a PADI Divemaster at the age of 18, I have been doing what I love the most: Exploring the tropical coral reef gardens of the Maldives and sharing incredible underwater experiences with novices and experienced alike. I spent much of my Divemaster life working at Maldives' high-end luxury resort dive centres and liveaboard safaris. At the age of 29 I finally made my lifelong dream of becoming an Instructor a reality.
Within months of earning OWSI, I opened my own Dive Centre in the capital city of Maldives, Male'. In the loud, jostling urban setting, an escape into the quiet underwater world is a welcome respite and I was fortunate to train loads of young adventure divers, several of whom went onto become Divemasters and Instructors with me. Being based in the capital has also given me the opportunity to collaborate with other organizations for reef cleanups, environment awareness campaigns and conservation initiatives. It was not long before my dive centre, Dive Desk, earned PADI five star rating!
In 2017, I was invited to assist in the IDC by Bandos Maldives with Platinum Course Director Mark Soworka. With Mark as a mentor, there began my own professional development, as well as opening the gateway for my students to learn more. My ability to teach well in Dhivehi, my patient attitude and commitment to see students excel have all being appreciated by candidates in all the IDCs I have participated in. I am proud of seeing dedicated young people taking up diving as a career, and I feel honoured to be part of their PADI journeys.
