Superyacht Crew Academy has a strong and reputable network with recruiting agents overseas, with Captains looking for deck crew that have confidence, commitment and the ‘edge’. Being multi skilled and qualified is the key as Captains look for skills like trades, recreational boating experience, nursing, personal training, IT, bookkeeping, event management, hospitality, PADI dive certificates, languages, etc. A strong work ethic is always looked upon favourably, so presenting yourself professionally with the best ammunition is a must.

Our courses are extremely well regarded, with many students coming to us from the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Germany, and South Africa, as well as having a large domestic student population as well. Our students are prepared in the best possible way to start immediately in the industry upon completion of our courses, with many students securing jobs within a few days of finishing, and a few whilst they are still only half way through our courses. We stay in contact with all our students upon completion of their courses, ensuring continuing support for crew in the industry, and with almost every student gaining employment within a short time of finishing their course, it is not uncommon for students to ensure their friends and family have enrolled with us to join them overseas in the Superyacht industry!

Our courses are taught by our qualified, experienced instructors, giving you a great insight into the superyacht and maritime industries. On top of sound industry insight, they have expert knowledge in their respective roles and high industry standards and expectations of crew. The course is interlaced with lots of ‘hands on’ practical teaching. We take time out of the classroom for practical excursions including boarding a Superyacht in Sydney Harbour where you will receive a wealth of knowledge and advice from the Captain and Crew onboard!

If you need accommodation, there is a beachside hostel that is reasonably priced, where students have access to a public bus from door to door. Alternatively Airbnb accommodation is available in the local Newport area with studio and private rooms for weekly rent.

Beyond the training course we recommend that you have in place your ENG1 medical examination, see our website for further information on medicals. Also we suggest organising any visa you may need, especially if you want to have multiple entries into places such as the United States, with a US B1/B2 Visa, visit the US embassy website for details. If you do not complete your medical before the course we recommend having an eye sight test done for colour blindness or sight limitations, as it can affect certain career pathways in the marine industry and future employment opportunities.
